Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to the Drakholm help center. Here we answer the most frequently asked questions we receive about our miniatures, their applications, and our production process.
1. About the products
What exactly are Drakholm miniatures?
Drakholm produces high-definition physical miniatures printed on 8K resin on demand. Each miniature is an original design created by independent artists with verified Merchant licenses (Highland Miniatures and others), which we produce in our professional studio.
What material are they made of?
High-quality "8K" UV resin (the most detailed on the market). Once cured, it is a rigid, durable material compatible with all common painting techniques: acrylics, washes, inks, contrasts, oils, airbrushing.
Do they come painted?
No. Miniatures are delivered unpainted and unassembled (except for single-body parts). This is standard in the hobby and allows the buyer to customize each figure to their color scheme. If you are interested in a painting service, please contact us.
2. Scales — the most common question
Scale is the most important data to know if a miniature fits into your collection. We explain it without technicalities.
What does "28mm" mean?
It's the approximate height of the model from the sole of the foot to the eyes (not to the hair or helmet). A human 28mm infantry miniature measures about 28-30 mm from sole to eyes. This is what we call "true 28mm" or "true scale".
What about "Heroic 28mm" or "32mm"?
These are slightly larger and more muscular scales, where proportions are exaggerated to highlight armor, weapons, and features. The "Heroic 28mm" or "32mm" scale is used by brands like Games Workshop. A human miniature at 32mm measures about 32-34 mm from foot to eyes.
| Scale | Human height (foot to eyes) | Style | Typical systems |
|---|---|---|---|
| 28mm true | ~28-30 mm | Realistic, human proportions | Kings of War, The Old World, 9th Age, Saga, Bolt Action |
| 32mm / Heroic | ~32-34 mm | Heroic, exaggerated | Warhammer Age of Sigmar, Warhammer 40K |
| 15mm | ~13-15 mm | Small, massive | Flames of War, Warmaster |
| 54mm | ~50-54 mm | Display, bust | Collecting |
What scale does Drakholm use?
We work in 28mm true scale. This means that our miniatures are designed to fit perfectly into systems like The Old World, Kings of War, and 9th Age, where realistic proportions are the norm.
Do you make other scales?
If you need a specific miniature in another scale (32mm, 75mm display, bust, etc.) please write to us before purchasing. In most cases, we can rescale the digital model and produce it in the scale you need, with an additional cost depending on size.
3. System compatibility
Are they compatible with Warhammer?
Yes, as a proxy. All our miniatures work as compatible substitutes for the main fantasy wargame systems. Drakholm is not affiliated with or representative of Games Workshop, Asmodee, or any other registered trademark.
Which systems are most suitable for our miniatures?
- The Old World (Games Workshop): perfect, identical scale
- Kings of War (Mantic): perfect, same scalar approach
- 9th Age: perfect, community oriented to 28mm true
- Warhammer Age of Sigmar: viable as a proxy, slightly more stylized
- SAGA, Bolt Action and 28mm historical wargames: perfect
4. Shipping
Where do you ship from?
We produce and ship from Spain (European Union). This facilitates shipments to the EU without customs and reduces delivery times compared to Asian sellers.
To which countries do you ship?
We ship to most countries in Europe, North America, Latin America, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Costs and times vary by destination. We automatically calculate shipping when you enter your address at checkout.
How long does it take?
Miniatures are printed on demand. The total time combines two periods:
- Production: 3-5 business days (printing + curing + quality control + packaging)
- Shipping: 2-7 business days depending on destination
In total, an average order arrives within 5 to 12 business days from payment confirmation.
If I place a large order, is there a shipping discount?
Yes. Above a certain amount, shipping is free to major destinations. See details in the shipping policy.
5. Returns and warranty
Can I return a miniature?
Miniatures are custom-made products on demand, which limits the possibility of standard returns. However, we guarantee that each piece arrives in perfect condition. If your order arrives with printing defects, shipping damage, or missing parts, we will replace it free of charge after you send us photos of the problem.
How long do I have to report a problem?
You have 14 days from receipt of the package to report any defect. Write to us at hola@drakholm.com with your order number and photos.
6. Painting and assembly
Do they come assembled?
Some small pieces come as a single unit. Larger miniatures (cavalry, monsters, heroes with cloaks) come in multiple parts to enhance detail. We glue with cyanoacrylate (super glue) or UV resin. The joining surfaces are designed to fit precisely.
Do they need any treatment before painting?
The miniatures arrive already cured and ready to use. We recommend:
- Washing them briefly with warm water and neutral soap to remove any residue
- Priming with a spray primer (gray, white, or black as preferred)
- Painting with your usual techniques
What paints do you recommend?
The resin accepts any acrylic modeling paint: Citadel, Vallejo, Scale75, AK Interactive, Army Painter, Kimera. We have no brand preference; use the one you know and handle best.
7. About Drakholm
Who are you?
Drakholm is a 3D printing studio specializing in high-definition miniatures for wargames and collecting. We work exclusively with creators who own their original designs, under verified Merchant licenses that ensure royalties go to the artist who designed each model.
Why buy from Drakholm instead of printing myself?
If you have a 3D printer and experience, do it yourself. But if you value your time, consistent quality, and support when something goes wrong, we are your option. Every miniature goes through quality control before leaving our studio.
Why buy from Drakholm instead of a cheaper seller?
Some sellers ignore the licenses of the original creators. If you care about supporting the artist who designed the miniature, buying from a licensed Merchant manufacturer (like Drakholm) ensures that part of the price goes to the designer. You also ensure resin quality, customer service, and returns in case of problems.
Do you have a catalog beyond what is published?
Yes. We are continuously expanding our catalog. If you are looking for a specific model not shown on the website, write to us and we will check availability in the catalogs of the creators we work with.
